Cookie Policy
This policy explains what KingsRoute stores on your device when you visit kingsroute.org, and the choices you have. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy.
The short version. This website sets no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies. We store exactly one thing on your device — your light or dark theme preference — and only because you chose it. We do not track you across websites, and there is nothing here to sell.
1. What cookies and local storage are
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Local storage is a similar mechanism, except the data stays on your device and is never automatically transmitted anywhere. Both are covered by the same rules, and both are described here.
2. What we actually store
Name | Type | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local storage | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme, so the site does not flash the wrong one on your next visit. Set only when you use the theme toggle. | Until you clear your browser storage |
| Local storage | Remembers your answer to the cookie banner, so we do not ask again on every page. Records which categories you allowed and when. | 12 months |
That is the complete list for the public website. Both are strictly necessary: one delivers a preference you actively chose, the other records your privacy choice. Neither identifies you, neither is shared, and neither leaves your device on its own.
3. What we do not do
No advertising cookies. The Service carries no advertising of any kind.
No analytics or measurement cookies. We do not run Google Analytics or any comparable product on this website.
No social media pixels and no cross-site tracking.
No fingerprinting and no data brokers.
If that ever changes, we will update this policy, raise the banner again, and ask for your consent before anything non-essential is set. We will not enable it and tell you afterwards.
4. Third parties
Pages that display a map load tiles and routing from Mapbox. That request necessarily reveals your IP address and the coordinates being displayed to Mapbox, and it may set storage under Mapbox's own control. This is essential to showing a map at all — without it there is no map. Mapbox's handling of that data is governed by its own privacy policy.
Sharing a branch link or opening the app from a link does not involve any tracking cookie.
5. Your choices
5.1 The banner
On your first visit you will see a banner describing what we store. You can accept, or reject everything that is not strictly necessary. Rejecting is exactly as easy as accepting — one click, same prominence. Because we currently set nothing beyond strictly necessary storage, rejecting changes nothing about how the site behaves; it simply records your preference.
You can revisit the choice at any time from the link in the site footer.
5.2 Your browser
Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies and local storage. Clearing storage for this site will reset your theme preference and bring the banner back. Blocking strictly necessary storage will not break the site, but it will forget your theme between visits.
5.3 Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We do not track you, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal to switch off. We honour those signals by design rather than by exception.
6. The mobile app
The KingsRoute mobile apps do not use cookies. They store your session token in the device's secure storage and cache map regions you explicitly download for offline use. What the app collects is described in the Privacy Policy.
7. Consent, and what continued use does and does not mean
Continued use of the Service signifies acceptance of our Terms of Service and of this policy as it stands.
However — and we want to be precise, because it matters — continued browsing is not how we obtain consent for anything that legally requires it. Under the UK and EU rules on cookies and on special category data, valid consent needs a clear affirmative act. Scrolling, dismissing a banner or simply carrying on does not count, and we do not treat it as if it did. Where consent is required, we ask for it explicitly and record your answer.
8. Changes
Every published version carries a version number and publication date, shown at the top of this page. If we introduce any new category of storage, the banner will reappear and ask you afresh.
